Description

Could you encourage children to discover the fun to be had with pasta, flour and water, mud, paint, rice and much more?
If so, this opportunity could be just what you need.
We are looking for a volunteer who is happy to get down and play with messy activities, usually outdoors, to help children under 5 discover fun and creativity.
Main tasks and responsibilities will include:
assisting with setting up and tidying
welcoming parents/carers and their children to the group
role modelling within the group through play and joining in with activities
encouraging group members to engage with the activities
ensuring the risk assessment is complied with
assisting with session reviews and planning
attending a 3 hour Child protection Basic Awareness course
attending a level 1 Baby Friendly Initiative training session

Organisation Description

Children’s centres provide services for families with children under five. They host drop-in advice clinics, parenting workshops, parent and toddler groups and even speech and language services. Many also host regular activities for children under five.

Requirements

Volunteers do not require any formal qualifications, but should have;
an approachable, friendly and helpful manner
self confidence and an ability to put others at ease
a non-judgemental attitude
good listening and communication skills
experience of being around young children either as a parent, carer, family member, at work or as a volunteer
an understanding of the challenges of parenting
an understanding of the importance of play
the ability to understand the importance of health and safety procedures, as they apply to the group
