Organisation Description

Somerset Wood Recycling is a not for profit social enterprise, based in Weston-super-Mare and up and running since 2007. Most frequently our work centres around people whose lives aren’t quite ‘right’ – whether that’s because of unemployment, criminal behaviour, drug and alcohol issues, mental health issues etc, Our aim is to help them reposition their lives in a positive way.

Key to this is offering support and training in a real work environment, where quality of service is essential and soft skills such as team work and punctuality need to be good (or, if they aren’t, improved).

The kinds of activities we involve people in are:

Making products from recycled wood
Painting and refurbishing
Work in parks – such as planting and bench refurbishment
Invasive weed control – Japanese knotweed etc
Work in open spaces (clearance, fly-tipping removal, installations)
Wood collections and wood sorting
