4 x 4 Drivers

North Somerset Community Partnership

Name: 4 x 4 Drivers
Organisation: North Somerset Community Partnership
Location: The trips will be in the North Somerset area and fuel expenses will be covered, North Somerset Community Hospital, Old Street, Clevedon, North Somerset, BS21 6BS
Type: Part Time
Ad hoc - volunteers will be required in the event of snow, ice or flooding which often occurs at short notice. Ideally, we would like people who could commit to morning, afternoon or evenings up until 10 pm during the adverse weather period.

We’re looking for volunteers who have 4×4 vehicles equipped for snow and ice to help our staff get to and from appointments/visits, or volunteers who are willing to drive a hired 4×4.

During adverse weather it can be very hard for clinical staff to reach high priority patients in the community in a normal vehicle. Having volunteer 4 x 4 drivers to transport staff to and from visits will really help us to deliver our service.

- Driving staff to and from appointments, visits which are hard to reach in a normal vehicle.

- Transporting supplies to and from areas which are hard to reach in a normal vehicle.

- Transporting staff to and from shifts at North Somerset Community Hospital.

Legal Requirements - Volunteer drivers must comply with all legal requirements, as with everyday motoring.
• Drivers must hold a valid full driving licence.
• Drivers must meet the minimum eyesight rules.

Their vehicle must:
• Be registered with DVLA – have a V5C registration certificate
• Have up to date vehicle tax.
• Have a valid MoT certificate.
• Be roadworthy.
• Be properly insured for the intended use.

Insurance – NSCP requires the volunteer driver to have their own vehicle insurance in place. It is recommended that fully comprehensive insurance is in place for 4x4 vehicles to be used in adverse weather conditions, however third part insurance is the absolute minimum required. Evidence of insurance must be supplied annually.

NSCP will not be responsible for any additional insurance premiums, claims made, or for reimbursement of an insurance excess charge in the event of a claim, on the individual volunteer driver’s insurance policy whilst volunteering as a 4x4 driver for NSCP, or at any other time.

Liability – NSCP will indemnify its volunteers in respect of activities carried out in good faith, within the scope of this policy and properly authorised by NSCP staff. Where volunteers, during the course of authorised activity, suffer loss or damage, NSCP will act towards them as it would towards its paid staff. As an organisation, NSCP holds both Public Liability Insurance, (which protects the organisation against claims by third parties) and Employers Liability Insurance which protects employees.
