|Name:||Outdoor Skills in Environment Conservation - Volunteering Course|
|Organisation:||Osprey Outdoor Community Interest Company Ltd|
This runs every Tuesday 0930 – 1545 up until the end of July 2020
Get outdoors and help look after the countryside. This course provides an opportunity to gain confidence in the exceptional local outdoor environment and to improve your health. It is also a chance to network with like minded people and local environmental experts. Learning about the natural cycle of life, through hands-on practical tasks, students will learn new skills using hand tools: how to look after trees/plants, managing land for wildlife/people and positively impacting the wider environment. The course will also help develop skills that could contribute to their employability: team working, interacting with others, practically applying instructions, reliability and commitment to a task. Self-esteem will also grow as a result of the ongoing contribution to the community and wider world. The course also offers routine and value to individuals, working as a team to complete a daily task, which helps provide a platform to progress into voluntary and employment opportunities.
We work with local Wildlife trusts, the National Trust and other interesting local groups. Activities include: Willow Harvesting, Tree Planting, Scrub Clearing, Dry Stone Walling, Hedge Management, Footpath Creation, Pond Restoration, Bracken Bashing and many more outdoor tasks.
Osprey Outdoors is a people focused organisation. We use the natural environment and outdoor skills to engage people, to help them learn and develop, to gain confidence as an individual and in a team.
We are a local organisation whose aim is to get people into the outside environment, to volunteer, to work and to enjoy it. We are a not-for-profit company and aim to broaden people's horizons, by education on wildlife and natural spaces, giving people new skills by trying new things and by creating an environment and culture of trust so that those with less confidence feel at ease. Working on a variety of projects we enhance our local countryside and natural habitats in and around towns and their communities.
No experience is necessary.
You will work in a team of like minded people and will need to be mobile enough to walk in the countryside to the work site. You will be outside all day, all weathers. Tasks will vary, but there will always be task that suits most levels of ability.
Enjoyment working outdoors. Fresh air, increased fitness, and a clear mind.
You will meet lots of different people and have the opportunity to network with local outdoor groups and trusts.
References can be offered to suitable regular volunteers. Further outdoor volunteer opportunities may also be available.
