Information and Advice Support Volunteer

Age UK Somerset

Name: Information and Advice Support Volunteer
Organisation: Age UK Somerset
Location: Ash House, Cook Way, Bindon Road, Taunton, Somerset, TA2 6BJ
Type: Part Time
After your training, we will contact you about making visits to clients in your area. You are free to accept or turn any visits down depending on your availability. During busy periods we may contact you more often, other times you may not hear from us.

This is a very satisfying role which makes a huge difference to the lives of the older people.

Our Information and Advice volunteers make home visits to clients who have requested our help - practical help like filling out claim forms, or through signposting information, helping to tackle a problem such as community care and consumer issues.

Last year our Information and Advice volunteers helped older people claim more than £2.25m in the benefits that they were entitled to.

The service is offered free to older people and so demand for volunteers is high - we need help across the whole of Somerset and North Somerset.

Organisation Description

Age UK Somerset exists only to help make life better for the older people of Somerset and North Somerset.

There is much to celebrate about getting older, but our later years can also prove challenging: loss of confidence, lack of mobility, financial pressures and suffering from loneliness and isolation are just some of the issues our local older people face.

We offer a wide range of popular and well-used services and activities specifically developed to meet the needs of the over 60s and we need Volunteers to help us run them. These include a popular Befriending service, an Information and Advice service, lots of fun activity sessions, social groups and sessions to build confidence with new skills such as cooking, or how to use a computer. These services can not be provided without our Volunteers.

WE NEED YOUR HELP….These services can only continue with your support.

Our current 100 for 100 campaign aims to find 100 new Volunteers to make 100 older people happier in time for Christmas!
Please visit: for more information.

As a Volunteer, whatever time you can afford to give and whichever of our many roles you decide suits you the best, your contribution will be helping more older people to enjoy a happier and healthier later life.
