Education Volunteer

Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust

Name: Education Volunteer
Organisation: Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust
Location: Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust, Bridge Road, Leigh Woods, Bristol, Somerset, BS8 3PA
Type: Part Time
Our busiest time is in Spring and Summer, however we do receive bookings from February to November. The Education Volunteer will be needed for pre-booked dates when the schools are visiting. The schools normally book a couple of months in advance. However there is no minimum commitment, so once trained up volunteers can choose to guide a tour or lead a workshop at a time that suits them.

Description

Last year we had over 2500 students visit the Clifton Suspension Bridge to take part in tours and workshops. We are passionate about delivering memorable and exciting education experiences to our young visitors, if you have experience working with schools we would love to speak to you about joining our volunteer education team!

The Purpose of the Education Volunteer Role is:
• To deliver a friendly welcome to all schools visitors
• To support the CLV Officer to deliver education workshops
• To support the CLV Officer to deliver education tours

Your main activities will be:
To welcome schools groups to the bridge to begin their visit
To help prepare workshops and other materials in advance
To support and deliver education workshops in the Visitor Centre
To support and deliver guided tours of the bridge
To help teachers with any questions or listen to feedback if required

If possible aid with clearing away of workshop material after visit

We welcome new ideas, if you have ideas for workshops that link to the curriculum and the Bridge we would love to develop them with you.

Organisation Description

The Clifton Suspension Bridge, spanning the picturesque Avon Gorge, is the symbol of the city of Bristol. For almost 150 years this Grade I listed structure has attracted visitors from all over the world.

The bridge joins Bristol and North Somerset and is owned and operated by Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust. It is entirely funded by tolls - which have paid for its upkeep since it first opened to the public on 8th December 1864. We are open and manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the year. Visitors are welcome at any time and our Visitor Centre (in Leigh Woods) is open from 10am to 5pm every day (excluding Christmas and New Year).
The Centre contains information about the competition to design the bridge, its construction and completion and how it is maintained today. You can watch a DVD about the bridge, see objects from our collection (including stereoscopic images and original souvenirs) and browse our shop, where you'll find books, postcards and souvenirs.

The Centre and the education programme is run by a team of fantastic volunteers and without their support CSBT could not welcome the thousands of visitors and school groups that visit every year.
