|Organisation:||Leonard Cheshire - St Michael's, Axbridge|
|Location:||St.Michael's, Leonard Cheshire, Cheddar Road, Axbridge, Somerset, BS26 2DW|
We are looking for volunteers who can give a few hours at a time, as and when trips are organised. This may be during the day in the week, in the evening or at the weekend. Ideally, we would prefer regular availability, 1-3 times a month, with a commitment of minimum six months.
We are looking for friendly and outgoing people to escort our residents on trips to the local community, such as the seaside, cinema, theatre, concerts, sport or cultural events. Volunteers will be supporting our Activities Team by ensuring every resident has a dedicated person enabling their participation during the trip. Training and ongoing support is provided to all volunteers to ensure they are comfortable and confident in their role.
Residents at St. Michael’s frequently go on trips to local places of interest. Our Activities Team support the residents by keeping them company, driving them to their destination, and pushing or assisting them with their wheelchair. Having an extra person on their team could mean that more residents are able to join them on the trip.
Volunteers receive all the necessary training before starting in their role. They will be supervised and supported throughout each outing by our experienced staff. Entry tickets to any attractions will be provided for free.
St. Michael’s is a nursing home for 36 adults with physical disabilities.
We are part of Leonard Cheshire, a UK charity supporting individuals to live, learn and work as independently as they choose, whatever their ability.
