Description
WaterAid Speakers are trained volunteers that deliver inspiring talks and workshops, across the UK, to raise awareness about the importance of clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene (WASH), to transform peoples’ lives for good. Our Speaker volunteers engage people about the important work of WaterAid, inspiring them to take action, as they speak with schools, universities, businesses, youth groups, religious places of worship, service organisations, and many more community groups. This role may require contact with children. WaterAid has a strong commitment to safeguarding children and screening procedures will be conducted.
Expectations of WaterAid Speakers
• Give a minimum of four talks or workshops per year and where possible on our key days, including World Water Day, World Toilet Day, Menstrual Hygiene Day and/or Global Handwashing Day.
• Attend Speaker Network training and adhere to volunteer guidance and best practise.
• Make use of our latest public speaking resources (such as PowerPoint presentations) included in our Speaker e-newsletter, emails, and online platform.
• Keep up to date with our key messages, appeals, campaigns, fundraising and volunteering.
• Regularly liaise with WaterAid about talks and workshops.
• Distribute our paying in form to audiences following a talk or workshop, where appropriate.
• Provide feedback on talks or workshops by completing the online evaluation.
• Contact local community groups to develop new talk and workshop opportunities.
• Provide support to new Speakers around their public speaking development.
• Demonstrate our values (see below), including being considerate when representing WaterAid and always leaving others with a positive view of our organisation and the work that we do.

• An interest in the work of WaterAid, including our key messages, appeals, campaigns, fundraising and volunteering.
• Passion and enthusiasm for public speaking and confidence to speak publicly to a diverse range of community groups.
• Good availability to volunteer 4 times a year, potentially for morning school assembly talks, mid -day educational workshops, evening and weekend talks.
• Competent in using PowerPoint and email.
• Access to travel locally.

Clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene are basic human rights. They should be a normal part of daily life for everyone, everywhere – but they aren't. That's why we're here.
We're working with our partners in some of the toughest places in the world. Together, we have reached millions of people with clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene, enabling entire communities to unlock their potential, break free from poverty and change their lives for good.
And while installing taps and toilets is essential to our work, we do so much more. We convince governments to change laws, link policy makers with people on the ground, pool knowledge and resources and rally support from people and organisations around the world, making lasting change happen on a massive scale.
