Befriender / Supporting Visitors Volunteer - South Glos

Sirona care & health

Name: Befriender / Supporting Visitors Volunteer - South Glos
Organisation: Sirona care & health
Location: South Gloucestershire
Type: Part Time

We have 2 stand-alone units in South Glos that support people by providing active rehabilitation following a hospital stay before they return home. These are:

- Henderson Rehabilitation Unit on the top floor of The
Grace Care Centre, Thornbury (with 19 beds)
- Skylark Rehabilitation Unit on the top for of The Meadows
Care Centre, Yate (with 30 beds)

During the COVID-19 outbreak, we complied with the Government ‘lockdown’ guidance which didn’t allow visitors into these units. With a relaxation of the ‘lockdown’ guidance, limited visiting to our units is being introduced in a managed way.

Visitors will not be able to enter the actual units, but an enclosed area in the gardens will be made available for them to meet with service users. To facilitate the logistics of these visits and to minimise the impact of managing and co-ordinating these visits on the rehab unit teams, we are looking for volunteers to support us in the transportation and supervision of service users during these visits.

Volunteers will be needed to support the units on the 2 pre-booked visiting days per week between 9am - 6pm (this may vary between units moving forward).

Tasks would include:
• booking visits
• helping service users to transfer into a wheelchair (if
appropriate) and navigate the wheelchair down in the lift
to the outside area
• greeting visitors
• assisting them put masks and any other appropriate
PPE on
• supervising visits and escorting service users back to
the unit
• sit and chat with service users with no visitors.
