Volunteer Director

Strawberry Line Cafe and Cycle Project

Name: Volunteer Director
Organisation: Strawberry Line Cafe and Cycle Project
Location: Strawberry Line Cafe, Yatton Railway Station, Station Approach, Yatton, North Somerset, BS49 4AJ
Type: Part Time
Directors are usually involved in meetings every 6 weeks, these last around an hour. These happen on a weekday evening that suits all involved. Directors then manage their own time in relation to the tasks they have taken on, so it is a very flexible role.

Description

The Strawberry Line Cafe and Cycle Project is a not for profit Community Interest Company with paid employees in its cafe and cycle hire at Yatton Station. It exists to employ and train adults with learning disabilities. The buildings are on a main line station and are leased from Network Rail and GWR. It has been open ten years and has a good reputation locally, and across the rail network, and has won many awards and even featured on the BBC’s One Show.

The cafe has a paid manager, and the cycle hire also has a paid project manager. The current volunteer Directors are responsible for employing the staff, taking care of the building, and all aspects of finance and legislation.
We are looking for people who have a few hours a week to spare. You may have an interest in people with learning disabilities or railway heritage but this is not essential, although we are particularly keen to have a Director with an interest in cycling. Experience of running a small business or being on the board of a charity would be ideal.

The Cafe is a unique place and needs more help and energy to take it into its next decade.
