Basically, the job of a Committee Member is to attend meetings, possibly visit the Residents and enjoy a lunch with them and to ensure that Clarence House progresses for the betterment of the Residents. The Committees are the controlling body and so have to make sure that all Employees act professionally and ethically and that there are sufficient funds to keep the Society in operation.
Locking Deanery Housing Society was set up to provide comfortable communal housing for older vulnerable people and emphasises the freedom of the residents as in their own home with the only ‘rule’ being that they have daily 3 course lunch together.
We are looking for volunteers who are prepared to join one of the Committees and currently we have a Finance Committee, a House Committee and a Management Committee, but we are looking at the possibility of having a Church/PR Committee, if we have sufficient numbers willing to volunteer. People with professional qualifications or experience are particularly beneficial as the Housing Society is formed on the basis of a charity and, therefore, funds are very limited.
Locking Deanery Housing Society was set up by the Deanery in the 1960’s, to provide comfortable communal housing for older vulnerable people. All the parishes in the Deanery own one share in the Society, but it is run by a board of volunteers and a CEO, House Manager, Deputy and a Chef.
Clarence House provides accommodation for parishioners who give up their own homes but are still able to live independently. They have individual Flats and a communal area as well as having a three course lunch daily.
