Child Safety Tour Guide

Name: Child Safety Tour Guide
Organisation: Lifeskills
Location: 4th Floor, The Create Centre, Smeaton Road, Bristol, BS1 6XN
Type: Part Time
This role is ideal for someone looking for fairly regular, but flexible volunteering during term-time.

We need Child Safety Tour Guides for fun, flexible, term-time role. The role of a volunteer Child Safety Tour Guide involves escorting small groups of children around our ‘indoor village’ and helping them learn how to avoid everyday hazards, to keep themselves and others safe.

As a Guide, you'll lead a group of 3-4 children on a tour of 18 ‘safety themed’ scenarios. With the aid of a script (as well as using props, lighting, and sound effects), you’ll encourage the children to get involved in spotting lots of hazards, in a variety of day-to-day situations.

You’ll deliver important safety messages and help them make (practise) emergency 999 phone calls, so that they leave Lifeskills knowing how to live much safer, healthier, more independent lives.

We provide full training, at your own pace. Each volunteering session lasts 21/2 hours and you’re free to volunteer as often as you wish (Monday – Friday during term time).
We provide:
• a choice of volunteering sessions (mornings 9:30am – 12:00pm, afternoons 12:30pm – 3:00pm, days 9:30am – 3:00pm)
• reimbursement of lunch cost from the Create Centre café (day volunteers only)
• a personalised training programme
• travel expenses
• Lifeskills uniform upon qualifying
• volunteer parties
• length of service awards
• development opportunities

Organisation Description

Since January 2000, Lifeskills has provided safety education through a range of different programmes. Our main programme is aimed at Year 6 children.

Each year, schools within North Somerset and beyond, are invited to bring their Year 6 pupils (age 10/11) for a guided tour around the safety centre, which is modelled as a realistic village. During the tour, children are presented with hazardous scenarios in a range of different settings, including a road, beach, dark alleyway, shop, homes, and a railway platform.

Supported by the Programme Co-ordinator, each session is covered by a volunteer Host and up to 15 volunteer Child Safety Tour Guides.

A highlight in the school calendar, Lifeskills provides an exciting, interactive, and memorable experience. We provide a safe environment, in which children learn about life's common dangers, and the education we provide supports the ‘Keeping Safe’ elements of the Personal, Health, Social, Economic curriculum (PHSE).
