Description

Our volunteers give support, friendship and practical help to parents with at least one child under the age of five who are struggling to cope with family life. We support families experiencing a range of issues including isolation, poor mental or physical health, perinatal depression, low confidence or self-esteem, financial worries or parenting challenges. All our services are based on the principle that volunteers offer no judgement, just compassionate, confidential, free help and support.

Home-Start volunteers give a high level of commitment and reliability and in return, receive ongoing training, supervision and support from the Home-Start team. Volunteers attend a preparation course (normally 32 hours over 8 weeks on a weekday) before being matched with a family whom they visit in their own home.

Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 2-3 hours per week home-visiting for up to a year, according to the family’s needs.

Organisation Description

Home-Start North Somerset is part of a national charity. We recruit and train volunteers to help families with young children.

Our volunteers, are parents or grandparents themselves and support other parents by visiting them in their own homes for 2 - 4 hours each week. All kinds of families can find it hard to cope for all sorts of reasons, maybe because of illness or disability of a child or because of post-natal illness, bereavement or loneliness. At Home-Start we support any parent with at least one child under the age of five who asks for our help.

Our supported families, like our volunteers, come from all walks of life. At Home-Start we believe parents have a key role in creating a secure childhood for their children. It's just that sometimes they need a bit of help ... your help. Home-Start North Somerset is now recruiting volunteers to join our friendly team.
